JM SYNTH GAZE is a BOSS GT-1000CORE patch for Fender Jazzmaster players who want a shoegaze sound that feels thick, slightly compressed, and rich in harmonics without turning into a one-note fuzz wash.
The starting idea was the dense, almost analog-synth character associated with the Fender Shields Blender—not a clone of that pedal. The goal here is a different time response: attack → dense core → natural Jazzmaster decay → spacious tail behind it.
Why I made it
GT-1000CORE factory presets can be deliberately extreme to demonstrate a sound category. I had been looking for more practical starting points for single-coil guitars, first with a Stratocaster and then with a Jazzmaster. This patch was developed through a ChatGPT-assisted design discussion, followed by hands-on listening and manual refinement on the actual unit.
Early versions added too much obvious pitch content or too much ambience: chords lost their shape and the pick attack disappeared. The final direction is deliberately more balanced—make the thick core first, then place delay and reverb behind it.

How it feels to play
On the lower strings, a note blooms with a broad “whoosh” while preserving some Jazzmaster attack. Chords are meant to remain a chord-like mass instead of a completely flat distortion cloud. The bridge pickup brings out more grain and presence; the neck pickup makes the core feel larger.
Starting points for adjustment
- Start with the guitar volume full and the tone control fairly open.
- For more strangeness, enable FX 1 OVERTONE. If chords become too cloudy, turn it back off first.
- If the low strings feel too large, lower DISTORTION 1 Bottom and the EQ low-mid area a little at a time.
- If the patch gets lost in a band, adjust PREAMP A Level and EQ before raising the reverb.
